There are no board meeting minutes for all of 2014 on the KBOO web site. It is transparent that there is no transparency. It is obvious that the best way to serve the membership is to tell them nothing.

I suspect the whole feverishly posting minutes/recording meetings was something to impress the non-innerparty rubes: "See? Here's proof we do meetings and stuff!" Now they consolidated control, they don't need to keep up appearances. Course it makes Mitchell's operatic references to "democracy breaking out" eve faker than they were. What? Is the lack of videos and misguided Indymedia screeds a sign there's no democracy now?
The fact is most members of nonprofit/public organizations aren't involved enough to follow board and management up and downs. It's a nice little scam gang Haines has pulled on the public, taking advantage of this fact. Amazing the FCC lets them get away with it.

Without minutes and budgets to ponder, what will we do for entertainment?

So ... an update of sorts
Fundraising again, goal 95K in ten days. Last time they fell short. Let's watch the numbers.
BOD election end of this month, funny isn't it? They have four candidates for four open seats. Yep, nothing changes much when no one is left to demand change.
The only BOD minutes that were posted for early 2015 are now removed from the KBOO website. Oh, the legendary openness of KBOO Radio!

Not only are all the 2015 minutes gone, but just for fun I looked at some of the critical meetings during late spring and summer of 2013. I could swear some of them have been altered and reposted. They're totally sanitized, have none of the previous formatting (presented as html text in the page, not as an attachment), and unlike years of previous and subsequent KBOO minutes, some don't have the name of the person taking the minutes noted.

So, the fall 2015 drive gets pledges of 82K with a goal of 95K. But the FY 2015 budget says the fall drive budget is 140K. What's the real story?
Also, in the few docs left on the KBOO website it's made very clear that KBOO is doing ok right now because of the $150K from Meyer Trust. They're so aware of their failing membership drives that they show income with and without the Meyer funds.
Lisa Loving has posted a new "told you so nyea nyea nyea" post on WWeek to the old article about problems at KBOO, implying that if they're still here two years later obviously we were all wrong. I guess what we were wrong about is that there always has been a sucker foundation to bail KBOO out, if you work the system.

Didn't think to start at this board and work backwards to the kboo website. Good work!
If you start at the kboo website, go to board of directors information page, then go to their links to minutes, you'll see you can't find the docs from 2015 using their navigation. If you use their links for minutes from 2013 you don't get the actual minutes, you get the different versions mentioned earlier.
It's possible that some are altered and some remain the same, but I don't have all day to micro inspect everything. So good that if KBOO destroys the old docs themselves, at least they're archived on this board for those who care to have them to review.
If the original docs are still on their server that's another thing (until they read this).

It's been documented the KBOO website is following the Epileptic Tree model. Whether this is due to deliberate obsfucation or incompetence is a toss up. |
