Just some random footnotes of happenings in the Kbot Kult Klub:
KBOO HD off, listeners confused:

Turns out this might not be a bad thing:

Couple of days ago, I was tuning through the Portland FM HD channels, catching up on the changes and noticed that KBOO HD was off. Rechecked again today and found that the HD is *still* off. I don’t check that channel very often, so it is possible that it has been off for weeks or months… Anybody Know?
Turns out this might not be a bad thing:
Slaps forehead!
The “mystery” 90.3 station appears to be good old KZRI, Welches, which has changed call-sign to KXPC and is apparently Broadcasting “Radio Nueva Vida” which is Spanish Christian.
The FCC listing shows that it rebroadcasts KLRD which is/was “Air One”, but that likely is not the case.
KVTI Tacoma 90.9 (Northwest Public Radio) is coming in decent (some fading) this morning, with KBOO HD off. I guess that I *really* don’t miss KBOO HD at all.

I’m also curious how such a narrow demographic can make it. KBOO has had queer programming on the dial for a very long time, and recently they have been looking for new hosts, new show ideas. I wonder if some of the old hosts have jumped ship, or if there simply wasn’t the demand for queer programming on KBOO?
“if there simply wasn’t the demand for queer programming on KBOO?”
Example 2: KBOO clings to the established community radio model to it’s own detriment. KBOO’s support comes from established underwriters that support the overall concept of different voices on the dial, not so much any specific type of programming.

Replies to my questions have been a very good read. And I’ve missed in my questions the obvious that it’s not the listener numbers that keep non profit radio alive, it’s the revenue stream. Follow the money!
And although “queer” programming has been on KBOO for a long time, I’m sure many potential programmers are as tired of the chaos and drama as anyone and have moved on or are now moving on.
