But seriously, KBOO is losing about 500 members a year. Average membership donations were what, about $75 or a bit more a year? That means that every year revenues drop another $38K. Member dues are the largest part of KBOO's revenues. But no problem, we'll fiddle round the edges of the revenue problem while Rome burns! There was a group that I used to work with called PRETC, there were several years when they gave KBOO donations in the $5000 range. Other years they would give KBOO grants for things like staff training, board training, and purchasing field interview equipment. PRETC stopped doing that about 3-4 years ago. I knew people on their board of directors who told me that they stopped giving money to KBOO because there were so many problems with KBOO and KBOO was not walking their talk. About the time Arthur Davis left is when they stopped giving money to KBOO. It is to bad that KBOO let $15,000-$20,000 slip away because they wouldn't sell their tax rebate coupon that they received from the state of Oregon when they bought the new transmitter in 2005.

TM would like to give the impression that the book and record sale was ended by the evil corporatists, who were evilly trying to cause an artificial financial crisis at the station (along with canceling the winter fundraiser), so that they would have an excuse to fire KBOO's award-winning paid staff. If they haven't done the book and record sale lately, it sounds like it was Ani's doing. Not that the truth would stop the Inner Party - after all, if the evil Fitch was responsible for the evil t-shirt, she might as well be responsible for canceling the book and record sale as well!

It always used to be in August or September. Thanks. The timing's a little late, but not noteworthy.

Correct! Ani stopped doing the Book/Record sale in 2009 or 2010, stating that there was such little money made after all the expenses were paid that KBOO could find more productive fundraisers. She felt it was a significant work load for her and wanted to find something that was not so difficult. Obviously this was long before Lynn Fitch came on board.

This says it all:
What's the point of running a mini cult if you have to work?

All snark aside, I might go. The price is right Bit doubtful how much of a $$$ event this is going to be for KBOO tho. This is the sort of thing you do for visibility, networking and advertising. It's not gonna bring in bucks. Not at those prices. Now if this was a real event *ok little snark* you'd have most of the stuff priced cheap, but you'd also have popular/collectable stuff priced still cheaper than market value, but enough to bring $$$ in. People will pay twice as much for a movie if it's a charity benefit. They'd be willing to do the same for books too. If it was a good cause...ahem. Sorry.

And found some tables: Guess they were saved by Geek Power(and I speak as tribe geek): They're just a few more comic book collections from fiscal solvency.
