The KBOO Coup was to bring more membership input into the workings of the KBOO Board. After the bad publicity, the bad feelings, the bad behavior, the KBOO Board had an opportunity -- an obligation, really -- to reassure members, donors and the wider community that KBOO was in the hands of good governance people. The Board failed.
Ever since the end of 2013, until just recently, interested parties needed to schlep down to the station and sit through chaotic and unproductive meetings or try to find the meeting minutes posted on the wall. For almost half a year, the Board has failed to post their meeting minutes on the KBOO web site.
So, after all this time, what do we learn. Lets start here:
KBOO Board Meeting, 27 Jan 2014. "Victoria: Had to terminate employee for non-appearance."
UNION UNION UNION!
Since when did showing up for work, or, when there, actually doing work, become a requirement for employment at KBOO?
Motion to request notes from Sussman Shank, LLP. Seconded. Passed unanimous.
A lawsuit perhaps? If so, how much of a dent in the budget did that make? The Finance Committee report might tell us, as well as inform us of KBOO's fiscal state of health. There was no Finance Committee report noted. There were no committee reports noted.
So, how are things going at KBOO? Seems like the Board would rather not let us know. Invisibility is not transparency.

KBOO Board Meeting, February 24, 2014.kboo.fm/sites/default/files/kboard_minutes_2.24.14.pdfHighlights and commentary " Tardy board members: Mark Sherman (arrived at 8:50)." He was tardy in January too! Tardy? Did he get detention? " The Board approves the following check signers for all KBOO accounts: The Board President, the Board Treasurer, the Station Manager and a staff member recommended by the Station Manager. Currently, these will be:" 1. Adin Rogovin, 2. Michael Wells, 3. Kathleen Stephenson, 4. Monica Beemer, 5. Mic Crenshaw. If Mark Sherman had not been tardy, he could have been a check signer too! Someone with a background in non-profit financial management can address this -- is it prudent to allow 5 people to sign checks? KBOO has had a history of lax oversight, poor controls and embezzlement. But no worries -- its not like this years budget calls for KBOO to spend more money than it can earn for 11th year in a row. The KBOO-KASH KLOWN KAR can hold more than a decade of deficits and adding more pledge drives will solve any and all financial difficulties! Board Members communicating to staff via email: Monica
Input from board members in email is management and not governance and also does not
follow our agreement of board not going directly to staff with their input. Just like it says in the Board Policy Manual (put in abeyance) and the Board Training developed for and done with the past board (but never done with the current board). You can't blame the board for not knowing its job, just because they have kept themselves ignorant. They don't know what they don't know -- and thats why they got elected. Knowledge is power and a powerful, informed board is dangerous to the entrenched budget-sucking staff. Treasurer’s Report: Michael WellsThere is a treasurer. He made a report. That is all. Board Minutes still missing: March & April. I look forward to learning in those minutes that we still have a Treasurer and he is still making reports.

All interesting stuff. The BOD doesn't post minutes until harassed and harassed ...
The Program Committee pulled one of the posted minutes from the website. Hmm.
Little birds tell of more emergency BOD meetings including one last night, things going on but not being disclosed to anyone.
The two week long Spring Drive only brought in a little more than half of goal, so extended another week plus finally got to about 80% of goal. Not looking good.
I'm curious how the Finance group will deal with the reduced revenues? From what has been posted re budget, it was already a deficit before the membership drive came in under projections.

HA HA HA HA HA
It would be epic if it was Ani, but that will never happen until it's far too late to "save" Kboo.
