Just remember Facebook isn't a reliable source for what people are saying or promoting, except when it is.

Being fair it wouldn't be a surprise there's is an agenda to exploit the latest warnings. But Ani's implying the Water Bureau is lying to the public, implying there was no e-coli. Or she's suggesting the water was sabotaged?
If someone tainted the water to "prove" the city couldn't manage it, well they've got egg on their face because the system worked exactly like it should.
Otherwise the reservoir issue and e-coli warnings are unrelated. If anyone has an agenda It's Ani's krazy "radical" kult and their efforts to take the water bureau away from the control of elected officials and give it to a private corporate interest.
Where is Theresa Mitchell now decrying "corporatism"?

I side with the skeptics. The recent water scare was waaay too nicely timed, with no actual threat. I talked with a friend who runs a tiny restaurant midway through Friday, who asked if it was an actual threat, why there was only a call to boil for 1 minute, instead of the longer periods generally advised. The ceaseless robo-calls to alert us to the boil order were also interesting, sure did whip up the fear factor.
Our reservoirs have been working for 100 years. Let's not get duped into believing covering them and giving scads of money to do so, is for our own good.

How Convenient !!!
The e-coli scare or 'Boil Alert' is the largest of its kind in Portland history.
And guess what???
A public meeting regarding 'decommissioning' the Mt Tabor Water Reservoirs is scheduled for June 11th...in a couple weeks. And yes, the meeting was scheduled before the so-called 'Boil Alert' happened.
Hmmmm...verrrrry interesting!!!
The City of Portland is allegedly planning to disconnect 3 reservoirs at Mt. Tabor Park. The work is proposed to begin in early 2015. 'Decommissioning' the reservoirs has been on the plate of the city council for a few years now.
And...a few days after voters turned down moving the water bureau away from our elected Portland City Council, it was announced that the City Council is set to approve higher water rates.
The increases are allegedly set to begin in a little over a month from now. Portland ratepayers will allegedly have higher water bills than they did just a few years ago. The average combined water and sewer bill in Portland is up 64 percent since 2004. Some of that increase is attributed to fund new storm pipes...but a lot of the increase is allegedly to fund the 'decommissioning' of the Mt. Tabor reservoirs. The decommissioning is allegedly federally mandated, and planned to be (at least partially) locally funded (as far as i'm aware at the moment).
*The Portland Water Bureau will host a public meeting on Wednesday, June 11 at Warner Pacific College at 6:30 to 8:30 pm in McGuire Auditorium.
The people of Portland are encouraged to attend the meeting, ask questions, voice concerns, offer feedback, and learn more about the scope of the proposed project inside Mt Tabor Park and on SE Lincoln Street.
News sources recently reported: 'The public meeting will focus on the proposed work to decommission the Mt Tabor reservoirs.'
The 'Boil Alert' happened immediately after the people of Portland voted down (by a HUGE margin/ratio of 3:1) the option of disassociating the water bureau with city council (an elected group).
Hmmmm...let's see here...
A city-wide 'Boil Alert' (the biggest of its kind in local history) was announced immediately after voters turned down an initiative to disassociate the water bureau with elected officials...AND...the so-called 'Boil Alert' was announced a couple weeks before the public meeting regarding 'decommissioning' the Mt Tabor water reservoirs ~ Hmmmm...Verrry interesting!
How convenient !!!
Or merely a coincidence
I Portland !!!

Mark Colman Damn right, Ani! Manipulation for profit on building hugely expensive, unneeded and severely faulty designs, as in the Powell Butte reservoir having 32000 leaks!

Karen Carr We get these boil notices now because we didn't used to test the water at all, but now we are federally mandated to test the water every day.

Jm Davis I agree. Remember how last year, as soon as fluoridation was stopped, the move to cover the reservoirs was initiated immediately? Keep an eye out for city officials to demand a hundred million tax dollars for a UV plant now, too.

Dawn Smallman Yeah -and the Water Bureau will make the UV plant happen by their policy that workers aren't required to wear gloves while taking water samples for analysis. Think that sounds like someone wanting to skew the test results?

Karen Crichton Totally agree Ani, thank you. What I see in my City (Lake Oswego) is a plan to profiteer off the City-owned (*publicly-owned*) water. The City is taking control of massive amounts of the Clackamas River, way-more than LO & Tigard will EVER need, because they plan to profiteer off of it, by selling it to other cities desperate for water, in the future. It's the selling-off of our natural resources to whomever has the money to buy them, same as the oil, coal, fracked-gas, etc.
