I asked if anyone was following the financials, anticipating it would be a hard slog to get the info myself. But it wasn't. So here we go:
From the most recent (July) Finance Committee Meeting Minutes:
kboo.fm/file/125564/download?token=qv6l8-WaSeems KBOO is showing a surplus on it's books! And that is because...
"Celese says all of our surplus was due to these windfalls, we had a deficit. Macrae
says when we pull out one time stabilization, PPP, etc we are actually operating at $157K deficit".
Oh. Deficits. Still.
So, this seems like an urgent issue. Let's see what the Board says about this...
From the Board Meeting Minutes.July 26th, 2021
kboo.fm/file/125793/download?token=_9wkTqKrCommittee & Station Manager Reports
• Ruba...asks if there are any urgent committee updates.
• Jessica: there are some committee updates further down in the agenda, but nothing urgent.
OK, not urgent, but certainly the Finance Committee made a report to the Board, which, as monitoring finances are any Boards' #1 duty, the Board read and discussed. Um...nope.
Maybe that's because
"Ruba: asking if anyone wants to be treasurer..."
"Eugene: because Emma resigned we need a treasurer, will attend finance committee meetings,
will be a member of the executive committee, the rest of the term that will run until September
30th. Asking someone to step forward, ideally someone with finance experience,
No one on the board currently has the capacity to take on this responsibility"
No one -- not a single person on the Board -- has the capacity to do like, financial stuff.
Ruba: asks what we do if we do not have a treasurer, Eugene says that we can probably get away
with it if we find a new check signer.
Now, don't the By-Laws, and/or state non-profit law, require there be a Treasurer? Not a "check signer" An actual Treasurer.
And no, there was no discussion of a Finance Committee report -- if there was even such a thing.
But, in the face of an actual underlying deficit, the Board is laser focused on fundraising, right? Wrong.
Arthur: "feels KBOO does not earnestly try to raise money." Oh.
Maybe this will all be hashed out at the next Board Meeting, which, according to the KBOO web site as of August, is scheduled for July 26th, 2021, 6:00 PM Pacific Time (US and Canada)
