And now: packing the KBOO elections

Mitchell's clumsy attempt at reframing Ben Hoyne's call for new paying KBOO members as vote fraud. Only people inside the Inner Party cult buy this. It doesn't help Mitchell's credibility when she deletes Hoyne's rebuttal at her blog:

And now: packing the KBOO elections

KBOO community radio elections have indeed been rather sleepy. I think that's because the KBOO community has been unaware of how much the station has to be promoted on the Web, the streets, and its own airways, to compete with new media sources. I really think that if more people knew about kboo.fm it would have a much larger audience. The persons who would pack the elections, however, have a different view--that there are too many "fruits, nuts and flakes" volunteering and staffing the Station.
Therefore, an activist faction on the KBOO Board has installed an Executive with corporate-style sweeping powers. She spiked the Winter Membership Drive, losing $50,000 or thereabouts, and then took the attitude that changers were necessary because of a financial crisis. She has become known for the anti-Left sneering rhetoric appearing on the KBOO website, though she has linked herself with Arlo Guthrie and claims to be neutral in programming decisions (which are now officialy her bailiwick per the new corporate-generated Board Policy Manual). She has been forced to accept a Staff union, and has been roundly denounced at the June 4th Board meeting, but she and her supporters are determined to prevail.
I am a programmer at KBOO, and have been since 1991. I have served on the Board; my spouse is on the Staff; I have put much of my mind and life into KBOO community radio. I have seen attempts to change the station similarly before, but now I think that KBOO's position as the last on-air dissent in Cascadia is in jeopardy. And I think that dissent is essential to any society, but is desperately needed by this imperial, Jim Crow, corporate global warming monster we live in. So I invite you, too, to join kboo.fm.
Would you join an organization, signing up your kids as voting members, just to throw an election, and thwart its historic mission? If so, what would be your motive?

"For TOO long, KBOO has been controlled by TOO few. It's time Cascadia took back its COMMUNITY Radio Station.
"The Goal: To get 1,000 Portland Progressives to join KBOO and VOTE in the September Board of Director election.
"You must become a member by early July in order to receive a ballot by mail.
A membership costs $20. Anyone 20 or younger can get one for $10.
"Go to www.kboo.fm to become a member.
While you're there, sign up your partner, your children, etc.
"Campaign 4 KBOO is run by supporters of progressive community radio. The goal is not to isolate or intimidate, but rather to encourage membership and democratic participation at KBOO Community Radio, for the benefit of the entire community. ..."

"My goal is to get 1,000 people to pay $20 to become KBOO members and VOTE in the September board election. The ballot will be mailed to you; all you have to do is mail it back.
"We need to get 1,000 people willing to place a $20 bet on progressive media, on community radio, on KBOO. Ballots will be mailed in late July, so you need to become a member soon.
"If you really wanted to get involved, you could even run for the board. Board applications are due June 28th.
"I'll be posting more information in the days and weeks to come at Campaign4KBOO.org"
