Volunteer Coordinator since dinosaurs walked the earth. Brands herself as an anarchist, eco-, radical, feminist, and tries to add as many prefixes as possible. She is close friends with the current board President Stephen "SW" Conser and is treated like an unofficial board member. Many think she's the power behind the throne. Can be found in the waybackmachine going back to the early days of the Internet. Enemy of the lulz Robot txt makes last statement impossible. However past posts at Portland give a clue to how entwined Ani is with KBOO as an institution:
Ani Haines is aware the responsibilities of a non-profit are to the PUBLIC not membership:

The new Conflict Resolution Policy was drafted by the present Personnel Committee after months of
deliberation. Committee work is the most effective way for the general membership to have input on
general operation procedures at KBOO and is democratically based. Individuals working on crafting
this POLICY was Cherie Blackfeather, Zale Chadwick,Steve Lindemeyer, Grace Hague, Rabia Yeaman,
Peter Tobey, Ani Haines, Justin Miller (having a masters in conflict resolution), and Chris

Ani Haines and counter-productive to the growth and continued existence of KBOO. Ani is a bully who manipulates volunteers and treats volunteers like crap unless they are one of her inner friends/supporters that she can control.

Whatever one wants to believe, this fact about Ani's management is not in doubt: she, along with the board, stalled KBOO's bank, Bank of the Cascades, for 2 months until KBOO was in danger of losing access to it's funds.

I just want to point out that KBOO, as a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization is prohibited from being for (or even against!) any candidate. I can't really speak to the news coverage of the Edwards rally, but I can speak to several public affairs programs that have examined the records of Kerry, Bush and Cobb and have done iformational programming on all of them; this includes the talk radio program that I co-produce / host on Friday mornings and a Circle-A Radio program called "The Kerry Apocalypse".
Further, if you are concerned about the direction of our news, please come down and add your voice to the news department! We are always in need of additional people to produce local stories--- and we train! As KBOO's volunteer coordinator, I am very happy to talk with you about your participation! Give me a call at 503-231-8032 ext. 213 or drop me an email at volunteer@kboo.org and I will be elated to give you more information about being a KBOO volunteer.
Remember: People-powered radio needs the people to power it.

Thanks for the positive feedback about KBOO and our coverage of the resident's visit. I believe that that is KBOO at our best -- people using the media to keep our communities informed and safe. I want to let everyone know that KBOO works best when there is an energized and empowered volunteer force and you can become a part of that. Please attend an orientation for new volunteers (the next one is September 14 at 11 AM). Help out during our upcoming Membership Drive, it begins on September 23 and runs through October 12th. It takes a lot of hard work, a big dose of compassion & sense of fun, and the dedication of about 430 volunteers to keep us going. Remember that KBOO really is you! If you are already a member of KBOO, look for your ballot for the Board of Directors and vote! We are one of the very, very few community radio stations that actually believe in participatory decision making enough to have all board positions elected by the membership (most have at least several seats set aside for appointments to the board- ew).
Also, a reminder that KBOO will be having special programming on 9-11 from 7:30 AM - 9 PM. We will be interviewing Michael Ruppert, Greg Palast, Robert Jensen, Vijay Prashad, Betsy Toll and oh, so many others. You can get the latest information off of our website.

7:30-9am POSITIVELY REVOLTING Ani Haines and Melodie Silverwolf with guest Jane White of Portland's Downtown Women's Center, in a hard-hitting discussion of issues surrounding the Alito nomination to America's Supreme Court, how Christian fundamentalists are incrementally denying access to abortion, and imaging the disaster for women and the world were abortion, again, to be outright outlawed. Some interesting and valuable call-ins too

KBOO is going down the tubes. John Mackey was their engineer, he was good and kept things running well. Ani Haines and her cohorts harassed him to the day they got him out of KBOO.

In the mean time, Voluteer Coordinator Ani Haines has run anyone away who is not a blind follower of her and now complains that she does not have enough volunteers to properly staff the pledge drive.

But then Ani Haines is a big part of the problem. She is nice to her friends and followers, they can get what ever they want. Those that are not Ani's followers get treated like crap.

To answer your question, Ani is a big part of the problem at KBOO but she certainly is not the only problem. If Ani were to leave tomorrow there would still be other problems.
Ani was better in the distant past. But she started changing about 6 years ago. Today Ani is again free thinking if it does not agree with her, she is controlling and often unpleasant.

Ani interjects: I have one more piece of emergency business, uh and this is one of those awkward and tricky situations, um we sent an email to the board last week.... We being signed by Andrew but it was written in concert with Sophi and Kathleen uh about a banking situation? We had two questions that we had promised Deanna A. from Bank of The Cascades that we would have answered after this board meeting.
She contacted us because she said she'd been trying to contact people for two months to get these answers and had not heard back from somebody. And then there was about a half hour later a response from the board treasurer saying shes taking care of this ; there are responses from a couple of other board members saying these are good questions ...And then there's finally uh, looks like the end of the day, a response from the treasurer saying she will handle all the necessary paperwork period.
Now, as a check signer and as somebody who gave my word to Deanna A. from Bank of the Cascades that she will have these two questions answered so we don't have interruption to our capitol on the fifth, when their policies change, I want to know that these questions have been answered and given to Deanna. Because otherwise I've promised her to call her up and tell her....
The questions are
1.determine who is listed as an administrator of the bank of the cascades account
[it was Debbie, she's no longer an employee of the foundation, she was laid off. Debbie suggested Mellisa, who is an account temp. And it's unusual, though not unheard of, to have an account temp given this level of authority. Of course that is up to the board.
2. does the board want to include the treasurer, president or any other board member as an administrator? Deanna noted that having the board president or treasurer is standard practice, but also stressed the administrators shouldn't have a lot of change over. So we, that is myself, Kathleen and Andrew, assured Deanna that kboo will have answers for her by August first, which means we all wanted to know answers from you all by the thirty first. But I'm here..
