To understand how deep hypocrisy runs, skip to the end where they're planning to email Kari of Blue Oregon and try to "work something out": approx 1:47:00 to 1:48:00
It's rich KBOO thinks Blue Oregon needs to prove it can be trusted. A sampling of Kbots acting out on Blue Oregon for context:

Who needs to prove they're trustworthy?

..and I am personally going to contact Kari of Blue Oregon and request an email blast on behalf of KBOO. And you know, this is an experiment to see whether we can trust these people or not. If if..if not, then we've learned a lesson....

BlueOregon Action: Hands Off KBOO!
Unless you are committed to the *whole* of KBOO, to making the station work, to giving it money, to volunteering and participating, do not try to make KBOO a vehicle for one narrow agenda.

Why is there not a petition for NOT having Hartmann on KBOO? WTF!
More Paying Members have NOT signed than have signed.
Let me repeat this:
More Paying Members have NOT signed than have signed.
Personally, I think a Survey offering to BAN Hartmann would garner many more signatures than this one.
WTF. Over?

What's more is that all this number-mongering treats the issue like it's one of economic demand or something. KBOO is a values-driven organization though, one value of which is representing the under-represented. As Chris Lowe put it really well: mainstream liberal perspectives like Thom Hartman's have PLENTY of mainstream coverage and presence.

Pals: Has anyone gone over to KBOO yet and actually filled out a new program request form? There is a process for this kind of action, and it is very simple. Go over to 20 SE 8th Street and fill out the form. It is right on the wall there in the lobby. Speaking as a member of the KBOO board of directors I can say it is my understanding that no actual proposal form had been filled out and filed as of Monday. Pals, get someone over there and fill out the form, then the Programming Committee can take this up and make a decision. They are cool and smart but I can't vouch for their ESP abilities. Right? Thank you. And thanks a ton for the feedback.

And there are very few KBOO members on this petition. And doesn't the person filling out the proposal have to be a member?

The Blue Or. folks don't seem to know what a community radio station is about. As another member of the board of directors, I say find out what the procedure for getting a program and proceed from there. We say that to everyone who wants a program at KBOO, from the kid coming in the front door to a big bohemoth DNC organization like Blue Or.

Kari,
So are you actually doing anything with this petition? It seems like you and Carla, when challenged about this, have responded with. Various forms of "we're not trying to tell KBOO anything."
But you are telling KBOO something. You're telling them that you'd like them to add a show, but you're not willing to follow station protocol to make that happen.
So, you make a big public statement, but you're not willing to take any of the private actions that might make that happen.
Frankly, that's rude and immature.

Kari prides himself on his insider connections. I think this is mostly an effort to inflate his bloated ego even more.

I don't understand why you are so hellbent to get KBOO to carry a program that doesn't serve it's mission, which is to give a voice to the underserved. Can you please explain how you got the notion that mainstream liberal Democrats are being excluded from Portland radio?

It's a rhetorical question. Since Kari & Carla's arguments are in line with those of the interim station manager (soon to be EX-interim station manager, we hope) I am guessing that she and/or her cronies have put Blue Oregon up to this with hopes that the way will be paved for more watered down liberal content. Sorry, but that demographic is well represented here. Go shop your show somewhere else please.

Grace,
This appears to be a big, public show by two people who, apparently, have done little or nothing to support KBOO over the years. They haven't stated whether they're members or if they even listen to the station, despite being asked multiple times.
It's true that commercial talk radio is dominated by those on the far right, and even adding Hartmann's tepid show to commercial radio would be a good thing.
But displacing 15 hours a week of KBOO programming with a national show, and one that is already available on the internet? That would be a bad idea.

Michael, agreed. If Thom wants to get a commercial station to carry his show, that would be great. He just isn't right for KBOO's mission.
